Animation Specialisation – Part 1 – Prep time!

In which I figure it’s probably about time I start writing these things instead of leaving them to the last minute…

So. It’s absolutely no secret whatsoever what variety of animation I prefer creating (I love watching 3D, don’t get me wrong, but if I ever see the inside of Maya again, it will be too soon) so when there was a brief that let me actually animate in my favourite medium…well, as you’ll see, I miiiiight have gone a wee bit overboard.

Overscoping, thy name is Kate.

I am however, not a *total* nutjob – I’ve animated a full short film before and I know how long it takes and just how brutal the whole schedule gets. So while I’ve got a wildly over the top concept, I’ve broken it down into more manageable chunks that can be combined with each other (or dropped if (when) time starts getting a bit tight) without impacting the story.

So without further prevaricating about the bush, the ‘brief’ and the production schedule is as follows.

Three basic modules – each one can be completed independently of each other and can be combined/omitted as time allows.

1: Character walking through trees and sees bear (animation needed – walking, moving branches aside, bear idle and shocked/frightened expression)

2: Character running from bear – poss side view across ridge (animation needed: character run, bear run)

3: Character slides down hill, pauses on ground for a second then runs off (animation needed: slide down hill, look side to side, and run off)

Bonus: Could be used as a cross discipline project by adding sound effects (bear roar, running footsteps, sliding down hill noise)
